Sister Holly M. gave a beautiful lesson from the Presidency's Message. There were eight points highlighted during the lesson. Each of them held special meaning, but the first two brought to light an important principle that is often overlooked.
1. ..it is good advice to slow down a little, steady the course, and focus on the essentials when experiencing adverse conditions... when stress levels rise, when distress appears, when tragedy strikes, too often we attempt to keep up the same frantic pace or even accelerate, thinking somehow that the more rushed our pace, the better off we will be.
2. Let's be honest; it's rather easy to be busy. We all can think up a list of tasks that will overwhelm our schedules. some might even think that their self-worth depends on the length of their to-do list. They flood the open spaces in their time with lists of meetings and minutia--even during times of stress and fatigue. Because they unnecessarily complicate their lives, they often feel increased frustration, diminished joy, and too little sense of meaning in their lives.
We are advised to observe life around us and enjoy the "simple and beautiful truths revealed to us." According to the Parable of the Pencil, NASA invested millions of dollars and devoted years in making a zero-gravity pen that would write in space. With all the resources and brain power spent in creating this pen, a simple resolution to the problem was the #2 pencil.
By slowing down and simplifying life, we will be able to "improve relationships with our Heavenly Father, ...build deep and loving family relationships, ...and sustain a relationship with ourselves."
